It seems like a new golden age for Jazz/Blues may be on the horizon – with acts, such as Future Fresh alumni XamVolo, modernising the genre to bring it into 2018. In Jazz fashion, this week’s Future Fresh, singer-songwriter Miles Goodall, is also trying to bring jazz and blues into a new era, with a strong nod to the past.

The Brighton-based artist started to make a name with himself by playing live shows, having appeared at festivals including 2000Trees and The Great Escape as well as Brighton Pride. He released single ‘Fantasy’ in November 2017, which drew comparisons to the likes of Jamie Cullum, however it’s in new single ‘Better For Me’ that he piqued our interest.

Citing artists such as Joni Mitchell and Mac Demarco as his inspirations, in ‘Better For Me’ Miles gets the balance just right: an upbeat pop production overlaid with his addictive vocals; a modern song rooted in cultures of the past.
