Following a three-year hiatus, last week over 50 delegates travelled out to California for the 2022 LA Sync Mission, organised jointly by the BPI, the Music Publishers Association (MPA) and the Department for International Trade (DIT).

This popular industry event supports the continuing growth of UK music exports by promoting demand for the music written and composed by British artists and songwriters that is featured in film, TV and video games soundtracks and TV/radio ads – worth over £30 million to the UK recorded music sector in 2021, according to the BPI in its All About The Music 2022 yearbook (up 47.6% on 2020).

The five-day mission was a broad-ranging and dynamic mix of panels, site visits, practical sessions, meetings and keynote speakers, enabling UK record label and music publishing executives to gain a unique insight into the operation of the lucrative sync licensing market in the US.

Below are a few select highlights from the 2022 LA Sync Mission!

Industry Panels:

Days one to three of the LA Sync Mission were hosted at the iconic EastWest Studios in the heart of Hollywood for a series of insightful panels with sync industry experts.

Delving into topics ranging from film to NFTs and sports documentaries to gaming, the panels provided a detailed look into LA’s sync industry from many of the key players and decision-makers within the world of sync in the media capital of the US – the world’s largest entertainment market.

Networking Reception:

To round off three days of panels, the networking reception, held at EastWest Studios, provided a brilliant opportunity for delegates to connect directly with the American supervisors in a relaxed setting

Site Visits:

Spread across two days, the delegates had the incredible opportunity to meet and connect with the music teams at Sony Pictures, Mophonics, Disney Music, 20th Century Fox and Universal Pictures.

Alongside tours of these infamous studios and offices, the delegates took part in speed pitching sessions - a priceless opportunity to pitch their music libraries for major upcoming projects.

Pub Quiz:

Amongst the panels and site visits, the mission included evening activities for the delegates to connect in a more relaxed setting. Amongst dinners and drinks at various LA hot spots, this included the BPI and DIT’s notoriously difficult music trivia quiz, hosted by our very own Chris Tams and Phil Patterson.

Keep updated with the BPI, MPA and DIT to be the first to hear about LA Sync 2023!
