The BPI, the representative voice for the UK’s world-leading record companies and label businesses, today publishes its first ever Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) Report.

This inaugural annual review provides a snapshot of where the BPI is positioned as an organisation on its DEI work and engagement as of the end of 2024, and is published in line with the BPI’s commitment to its Five Year DEI Strategy. The document reports on the progress against the BPI’s Five-Year Objectives and Outcomes.

Central to the Five-year Strategy are three key pillars – Lead By Example (reflecting the BPI’s internal work, including its policies and recruitment); Connect and Support (reflecting the work of the BPI’s membership and also the role of EJAG); and Advocate and Amplify (reflecting the BPI’s external DEI work, extending also to the BRIT Awards).

Overarching all of 2024’s activity was the publishing of the BPI’s Five-year Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Strategy in October 2024, coinciding with the end of National Inclusion Week. The strategy, which was shaped with the support of the BPI’s Equity and Justice Advisory Group (EJAG) and of BPI members, was well received on launch, and won the Trade Association Forum’s 2025 Diversity and Inclusion Award.

While the report highlights areas of progress and achievement, it also spotlights areas that need to be addressed, requiring an increase focus and resources, as set out in the Reflection and Action Plan for 2025 section.

The Outcomes and Objectives section of the report show how the BPI is already actively working on nine of our fourteen Five-Year Outcomes and Objectives, as laid out in the Five-Year Strategy. Of those nine, the BPI is ‘achieving’ on six; while three are ‘partially achieving’; and five are areas of development which require increased focus in 2025.

Hailey Willington, BPI Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Manager, said:

“The process of conducting this review and sharing our findings is in keeping with our commitment to transparency, and also with our commitment to sharing our learnings. The review, which supports our Five Year Strategy on DEI, is an important exercise to understand not just where we are seeing progress, but where we need to increase our focus and resources in 2025.

“We would like to formally take the opportunity to thank the team members, Council Representatives, BPI Members and Members of the Equity and Justice Advisory Group (EJAG) who have supported the strategy over the last year through its development and publication, and who continue to support the BPI on its DEI journey. We now look to draw on the progress made in 2024 as we turn to meet our next steps and the development of our DEI work in 2025 and ongoing.”
