Trailblazing British Black Music Album Anatomy: 'Osibisa' (MCA 1971) Monday July 5 2010, 6.30-8.30pm, 27 May 2010

 BMC

The Black British Music Congress, in conjunction with the BPI, are presenting the latest in their popular ‘Album Anatomy’ events dissecting the 1970s ground breaking album ‘Osibisa’, which catapulted this perennially popular act onto the British mainstream music scene.  With a string of both hit singles and albums to their name, Osibisa still play concerts today across the world.  This talks programme offers a rare opportunity to find out more, from some of the people who played a role in the success of the ‘Osibisa’, which reached no. 11 in the album charts in 1971 at a time when prog rock ruled, and the ‘world music’ term had not been coined.

Panellists: Teddy Osei (band leader), Gerry Bron (management via video), Robin Denselow (journalist), Kwaku (chair, BBM/BMC), Julian Wall (facilitator, BPI)

This anatomy doesn’t just offer an engaging history of one of the few African-based bands to have had mainstream success, and some great anecdotes from a well-travelled band celebrating their 40th year, but hopefully there may be some gems of wisdom relevant for doing business today.
