BPI has organised a summit meeting between senior figures in the UK music industry and the BBC Trust to set out, face-to-face, significant concerns over the proposed closure of BBC 6 Music and the rationale for why it should be saved.
The meeting is on Wednesday 14th April 2010, with Sir Michael Lyons and other members of the BBC Trust.
Along with BPI Chief Executive Geoff Taylor and Chairman Tony Wadsworth, industry figures confirmed to attend include:
Paul Curran, Chief Operating Officer, Sony Music
David Joseph, Chairman & CEO, Universal Music UK
Andria Vidler, President EMI Music UK and Ireland
Jeremy Marsh, Vice Chairman Warner Bros Records UK
Feargal Sharkey, UK Music Chief Executive
Martin Mills, Chairman, Beggars Group
Other industry execs are expected to be confirmed nearer the time.
BPI Chief Executive Geoff Taylor said: "BPI feels very strongly that 6 Music fulfils a unique role in UK radio, playing music that just does not get airtime elsewhere. The station is a fundamental element of the BBC's public service role in relation to music.
"This meeting is a significant opportunity for senior figures from across the industry to present their views direct to members of the Trust."
Tony Wadsworth, BPI Chairman, added: "Listeners to 6 Music are some of the most passionate fans of music and deserve to continue to enjoy the quality and range of music on radio that only 6 Music currently delivers."
