The BPI today launched a series of teaching seminars giving training and practical help for its independent record label members.
The first seminar, presented by the Amplifi Academy, will a two-day course held at the BPI’s Westminster headquarters on October 21st – 22nd run by Alan McBlane of Buckinghamshire New University. It will cover physical & digital distribution, marketing and promotion on a budget and publishing and copyright protection for independent labels.
In a further move, the BPI has linked with Music Ally to present a series of themed seminars. The first of these will be an international licensing and MIDEM seminar on 4th November, with subsequent seminars looking at digital marketing, sync licensing and adding revenue streams for independent labels.
Julian Wall, BPI Director of Independent Labels, said, “We’re conscious that there is no centralised training and information service for record labels. We are keen to strengthen the BPI’s role in this area, linking up with recognised providers of expertise to stage themed events that I am sure our independent members will find both informative and valuable.”
Although in the first instance these presentations are for BPI member labels, a limited amount of places may be available for other interested companies and individuals. Anyone requiring further information on these events should contact julian.wall@bpi.co.uk.

About BPI
The BPI is the representative voice of the UK recorded music business. We are a trade organisation funded by our members - which include hundreds of independent music companies and the UK’s four major record labels. The BPI’s members account for approximately 90% of all recorded music sold in the UK, and globally the UK's recorded music market is the third biggest.
The BPI also organises the annual BRIT Awards show as well as the Classical BRIT Awards show. The organising company BRIT Awards Limited, is a fully owned subsidiary of the BPI. Substantial proceeds from both shows go to the BRIT Trust, the charitable arm of the BPI that has donated almost £15m to charitable causes nationwide, since its foundation in 1989.
