The BPI has confirmed that it is investigating several members’ complaints surrounding the sale and distribution of ‘Authorised’, a “bootleg” remix album containing mixes by DJ Sanj.
The BPI contacted distributor Hi Tech Music, who have admitted to distributing the product with Envy Entertainment on behalf of Bootleg Recordings.
They claim that they have now ceased distributing and have withdrawn all the product. The infringements relate to both Bhangra and US urban artists, the latter including mainstream artists such as 50 Cent, Ashanti, The Game and Snoop Dogg.
BPI Director of Anti-Piracy David Martin added: "We believe that this remix album uses lengthy samples of our members' sound recordings without permission. Of course we take every complaint we receive in relation to our members’ rights very seriously, and we are investigating the situation.”
