International work

The UK is the third biggest market for music in the world – only the US & Japanese markets are larger.

In addition, the UK consistently delivers acts that break across international territories and sell in markets right across the world.

The BPI has a central role in promoting British music abroad with participation in a number of events and international initiatives. BPI International work includes:

Networking events and introduction services to key international business contacts and media partners.

Specific trade missions to key markets (the US & Japan) designed to assist member labels to develop their business and source new opportunities.

Company training and mentoring on international issues.

Structural and organizational assistance for foreign business events and trips (achieved through the BPI being an accredited UK Trade & Investment sponsor).

A presence at and partnership with key international trade fairs and events such as Midem (France), Popkomm (Germany), SXSW (US) and Canadian Music Week.

New Japan Music website in English

In conjunction with the RIAJ , the BPI is proud to announce a new website for English speaking fans of Japanese music, keeping them up to date with all the latest releases and news from the world’s biggest music market outside of the US. Updated on a regular basis, this site is the most comprehensive source of release and chart information on Japanese music across all genres and is officially supported by the RIAJ (Recording Industry of Japan). The BPI run an annual trade mission to Japan to help the development of UK music there and are pleased to support this initiative to help our colleagues in the Japanese industry spread the word on their titles to overseas international markets.
