Digital music

95% of the UK's singles market is now digital. The growth of this format has provided fantastic flexibility for consumers and great opportunities for the music business to innovate.

The format has its challenges, in the main because of the proliferation of unpaid for and unlicensed online digital file-sharing. Online copyright infringement will cost the UK music community an estimated £200m in 2009 - this is money that should have gone to those who created the music and into developing new musical talent.

Essentially though, digital music is an exciting medium that has transformed, and will continue to transform, the music business.
