Committees

The BPI Council is supported by the BPI's individual committees - APU Liaison, BRITs, BPI & ERA Liaison, BPI & PRS for Music Liaison, Classical, Classical BRITs, Digital, Finance, Independent & International, Music Industry Trusts (MITs), PR, Public Affairs and Rights.

The BPI committees take a central role in BPI governance and industry decisions - not only do they provide forums for debate and communication, they facilitate some of the key workings of the music business.

Anti-Piracy Unit (APU) Liaison Committee:

The committee is made up of representatives from the Musicians' Union (MU), PRS for Music, Phonographic Performance Ltd (PPL), Federation Against Copyright Theft (FACT), Equity, Entertainment Retailers Association (ERA), Music Managers Forum (MMF) and record company anti-piracy people.  The aim of the quarterly meetings is to talk through current anti-piracy cases – internet and physical – and to update, allowing for feedback and open discussion.

This includes discussions on current and future PRS for Music licensing schemes, as well as schemes that are administered by PRS for Music but licence BPI, the Association of Independent Music (AIM) and PRS for Music member repertoire – such as the Joint Import Licence (JOL) Scheme.

Classical Committee:

Finance Committee:

The Finance Committee reviews and approves the management accounts and budgets of the BPI and BRIT Awards Ltd. In addition, the committee is used to co-ordinate industry responses to finance-related issues relevant to BPI members and the wider music business.

Independents & International Committee:

This large committee meets regularly to discuss indie specific issues and how to maximize UK record label's presence internationally.

PR Committee:

The PR Committee is a forum for PR and communications representatives from member companies to discuss topics that affect the record business and coordinate responses. By communicating and meeting on a regular basis committee members are able to ensure the business promotes common themes and  key messages to the media.

Public Affairs Committee:

The Public Affairs Committee (PAC) comprises various government relations representatives from member companies. Government policy, in the UK and Europe, impacts the way the record business is run.
